Priyanka Gandhi To Make Electoral Debut From Wayanad
Congress party made this big announcement as Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Wayanad and Raebareli in the Lok Sabha polls, has decided to retain Raebareli seat
"You will have to wait a long, long time for that!" This is what Priyanka Gandhi said nearly 25 years ago when a reporter asked her about her entry into electoral politics. The long wait has finally come to an end, as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is all set to make her poll debut from Wayanad in Kerala. The Congress party made this big announcement as Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Wayanad and Raebareli in the Lok Sabha polls, has decided to retain Raebareli seat.
Congress has made a significant comeback in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election, and the party improved its seat tally from 52 in 2019 to 99 in 2024. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi's decision to retain the Uttar Pradesh constituency indicates that Congress is not giving up on the Hindi heartland and will continue its fight to regain ground. Additionally, the Congress's decision to field Priyanka is expected to bolster the confidence of party workers.
In the 2019 polls, Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency by securing 706,367 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi retained the seat, defeating CPI-M candidate Annie Raja by 3,64,422 votes. "I am very happy to be able to represent the people of Wayanad and all I'll say is that I won't let them feel his (Rahul Gandhi's) absence," said Priyanka Gandhi, as quoted by NDTV. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi said that his doors were always open for the people of Wayanad and added that the constituency would effectively have two MPs through him and his sister.
