Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladesh captain, has been hospitalised after he suffered a heart attack on the field during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday. The incident happened during the first innings of the 50-over-a-side contest between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Dhaka, reported ESPNcricinfo. Tamim Iqbal, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, fielded for just one over before being rushed to a hospital.

"He returned to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack, and we subsequently did an angiogram and angioplasty to remove the blockage. The medical procedure has gone smoothly," said the official medical bulletin. Doctors also said that Tamim is currently under observation. Following the incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board reportedly cancelled its scheduled meeting this afternoon.

Tariqul Islam, a team official, told the AFP news agency that Tamim was being treated at a hospital in Savar on Dhaka’s outskirts. Tamim had played 70 Tests, 243 one-day internationals and 78 T20s for Bangladesh between 2007 and 2023.
