Dubai Introduces New System To Name Roads And Streets In Emirate
The Street Designation Proposal, which aims to enable public participation, is introduced under the supervision of Dubai Municipality
The Dubai Road Naming Committee has launched a new platform through which the public can propose names for roads and streets across the emirate. The Street Designation Proposal, which aims to enable public participation, is introduced under the supervision of Dubai Municipality.
The committee has also designed a method for proposing names based on specific classifications. The classifications include names linked to Arabic and Islamic design and architecture, as well as names associated with art, culture, and Arabic poetic prosody. It will also include the names of local plants, trees, and flowers, along with the names of wild and marine birds. Additionally, the classification encompasses the names of squares, forts, ancient castles, and archaeological sites.
Dawoud Al Hajri, Chairman of the Dubai Road Naming Committee, said in a statement that the project aims to revive heritage names, highlight national identity, and social and cultural characteristics that reflect Dubai's history and heritage. "It aims to revive valuable historical meanings, heritage, and urban monuments, in line with Dubai’s leading global position and reputation," Dawoud Al Hajri added.
