UAE Cabinet Approves Establishment Of Supreme Space Council

The UAE Cabinet on Monday approved the formation of the Supreme Space Council to strengthen the country's leading position in the space sector globally. The council will be chaired by Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai. 

Major responsibilities of the Supreme Space Council include approving the public policies for regulating the space sector and related activities, defining national priorities for the space sector, and identifying the technologies required to ensure technological independence of the UAE. Additionally, the council will be also responsible for approving plans and strategies focused on space security in cooperation with international partners and the comprehensive framework for managing infrastructure and assets in the space sector.

The space council, a permanent entity reporting directly to the Cabinet, will focus on strategies for forming relationships at the local, regional, and global levels that will help the space industry and allied sectors. Moreover, it will also review and approve legislation, policies, strategies, and national programmes related to the space sector in coordination with relevant authorities.
